It had been months since he'd last seen Farah and James. But hearing about his best friend's tour around the country meant that he was ending this weird hiatus. He'd driven up to Bethel from the city, where he was now living full-time. He'd let Mia take the house in Huntington since she had more out on the Island. Jeff's job and circle of friends were based in the city, so he found himself a brownstone in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and called it a success.
He pulled up to the address James had given him for the stadium. Parking, he meandered towards the entrance in his usual no-hurry stride, hands in his pockets. He had to admit, he was almost a little nervous about seeing James, and moreso Farah. And even more than that, he was nervous about playing keyboard for James' set that night. But he couldn't think of it that way. He was there to support his best friend and have a good time in the process.
After getting through the security guards, he spotted Farah and almost started coughing at the surprise of seeing her again. He hadn't seen her since before she had her baby and it seeing her now took him by surprise.
"Farah!" he called out, perhaps too loudly, his face immediately flushing. Good thing he had that beard to cover it up.

But things were different now. She had a beautiful little girl, no man, and a job where she basically followed James and bossed him around at times. It was a lot of fun but it was also a lot of work at times too. Especially before a show when she had a lot of things to take care of.
That's why she could be found at the stadium all ready, talking into a headset as she checked something on the list. When she heard her name being called, she whirled around with a confused look till she spotted Jeff. Immediately the confusion switched to a brilliant smile.
"Jeff!" She called, hurrying towards him. When she got close enough, she threw her arms around his neck to hug him tightly. "You made it!"
"I did," he replied, exhaling his relief. "Took me longer than I expected to get here." He went quiet a moment, just giving himself the chance to soak it all in. "Almost forgotten what you looked like." He gave her a light nudge with his elbow, a joking glint in his eye. "You..." How to pay a compliment without sounding weird? Or gross? Or perverted? "You look good." Okay, not the most eloquent, but to the point.
"I was beginning to wonder where you were." She checked her watch before focusing back on him, blinking softly. "Me?" She looked down at herself before chuckling. "I guess I'm missing a small belly, huh?" She was as she had lost all her baby weight surprisingly quick.
When he complimented her, she smiled and there was a hint of shyness. "Thank you. You do too."
Then she grew serious, nodding. "I heard and I'm sorry. That has to suck for sure." She sighed. "I've been on my own since a short while before Isa was born." She admitted, wetting her lips.
He laughed at her shit comment and nodded in agreement.
With a shrug of his shoulder, he scratched the back of his head again.
"Yeah it did at first. I've gotten used to it." Another surprise. He looked at her, tilting his head to the side. "Weren't you... with some guy?"
"How long as it been now?" She paused at the question before sighing with a nod. "I was but...we were too different. He was...older." Let's not clarify how much older. "I don't think he was ready for a young girl and a baby which is fine. I mean, I got Isa out of it."
"You have to meet her, she's adorable. Wanna hear something funny? I had her the day James' album came out! Talk about good day."
"How long has what been? Since she and I divorced?" He thought. "I dunno, 3 months maybe. 3 or 4. At least since it's been official, legally. We've been separated since... February. So I've had time to adjust." He put on his best sympathetic face - and he'd perfected that look. It was almost good enough to convince himself that he was sad that she had split from that guy, but he knew better. "Sure she is, given her mother." He smiled and then laughed. "Geez wow, that really was a good day. Sorry I didn't call you or anything to congratulate you about your baby."
Farah nodded her head, keeping her own features sympathetic even if there was a strange twitter in the pit of her stomach. "I'm sorry, I wish I had been in touch when it was all going on." She had been so wrapped up in her own stuff though, she had lost contact with a few friends. Then she smiled at him, "Charmer."
"Don't worry about it, you can say congratulations now and meet her." Farah brushed it all off, not having a problem with him not calling back then. He hadn't known.
He smiled, clinking his glass with Farah's.
"To reconciling with good people."
After clinking their glasses, she sipped her drink as she looked around the bus and then back at him. "It's too bad you couldn't come with us for awhile."
He raised his eyes to her and cocked his head.
"I know... Hadn't realized it was going to be so much fun." He cleared his throat shyly. "Maybe he'd let me play a few more."
"He probably would." She smiled brightly at Jeff. "Plus there are always jobs around here." She chuckled softly, glancing over at the baby and then back.
Jeff looked confused for a moment. He looked at her, his head tilting, then to the baby, then to Farah.
"...You mean...?" he half-asked, motioning to the sleeping bundle in the basket.
"Oh, well no. I just meant you could find a job playing for James and...well, I mean there are times where I might have to run to do something and someone can sit with the baby. But I wasn't suggesting you play nanny." She seemed flustered.
He couldn't stop the smile from spreading across his lips at her getting flustered.
"I'd really like that," he said softly, "Helping to take care of your baby... I mean... if that's... what you meant." He felt himself getting a little tongue-tied. "Always liked kids."
Then she looked surprised, blinking at him softly as she felt a bit of a shy blush creeping into her cheeks. "You...really?"
Her asking if he was okay made the redness increase. He looked at her, suddenly panicked that she'd seen something weird on him.
"...Y-yeah... Yeah I'm ok... why wouldn't I be.. ok?"
There was something weird and she had to wonder why it was that he was blushing so much at being this close to her. "I...don't know?" She offered.
"Here, I'll let you out." She started to slide to get off the bed.
That's not what he wanted to do. In fact, it was the mere desire to have her there, that close to him, that was making him get so flustered. He hated his shyness sometimes. Time to be bold. Or at least bold, according to Jeff's standards.
He reached out and touched her arm, motioning for her to stay and lay back down.
"No... you don't... have to go."
As she settled beside him, she looked over at him with no idea what to do next. It was an odd feeling for her because she used to know. At one time she would have known exactly what to do next but with Jeff, it wasn't different.
Suddenly she felt shy and that was new.
He tilted his head and kissed her forehead gently, hoping to God he wasn't misreading everything.
As he kissed her forehead, she closed her eyes with a little smile before tilting her head back so her mouth could brush along the underside of his jaw.
